Malaysian Leadership Development Program (MLDP)USAID, through CORE International, has assisted the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) in the facilitation of the Malaysian Leadership Development Program (MLDP), aimed at providing a first class international internship which allows participants to observe how another electric power utility manages their operations, including where state-of-the-art management practices become embedded in day to day operations. Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Malaysia’s largest electric power company, is considered a leader among Asian utilities and, through agreement with EEHC and with funding from USAID/Egypt, hosted the MLDP. TNB and EEHC match well in terms of goals, growth, culture, as well as in regards to transformation plans for future ventures and service thus making a natural partnership for training. USAID selected CORE International to assist with making this natural partnership into a successful training experience for all participants. Four groups of Egyptian utility managers and regulators from EEHC, after completing an intensive management program within Egypt, attended the MLDP in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The four groups, spread over December 2005-April 2006, each spent two weeks within Malaysia, observing through lecture as well as through hands-on training, site visits, and practical experience, TNB’s approach to the utility industry. Utility management and logistical experts from CORE assisted with the planning, execution, and successful completion of this project both in Malaysia as well as in the United States. CORE International provided all elements of logistical facilitation from assisting with program design, providing in-country guidance on utility management as well as on Malaysian culture, and with tailoring the program to the unique needs of each participant. Mr. Dinesh Wahi, Vice President of CORE India, Ms. Lois Varrick, Executive Vice President of CORE, and Ms. Victoria Racz, Associate, facilitated the successful execution of this project. |
